Artist Association DEZ ORG is a fluctuating group of visual artists based in Belgrade, initiated and registered by Gordana Belić, Dragan Đorđević, Tijana Knežević, Maja Radanović, Jelena Radić, Dragan Rajšić, Maja Rakočević Cvijanov, Milica Ružičić, Ivana Smiljanić, Boba Mirjana Stojadinović and Boris Šribar in 2005. This group cooperates with numerous local as well as international organizations and artists.
Defining the group DEZ ORG means taking into focus the critical positioning of the point from which these artists speak, think and work in contemporary art and society. With the lack of local institutional and curatorial and critical support these artist are working towards finding means to establish themselves in terms of self-defining the context they are producing art in.
The general directions DEZ ORG is taking are: looking for a way to relate own artist practice with the practice of other artists; creativity in the local context, recognition of the “local” in the wider frame and letting go of that “local”; examining of the ways in which one can operate in the sphere of enriching opinions and ways of thinking; examining the possibility of knowledge distribution; communicating the public and private, and examining the borders between the one who “offers” and the one who “receives” art; taking interest in noting, collecting and examining the contemporary environment in which one lives.
For the past five years DEZ ORG has done projects or participated in international ones that deal with the practice of visual art, including promotion of young artists from the same generation as DEZ ORG founders and younger than themselves (exhibitions PlusPlus, Re_set: 1 and Re_set: 2, Mangelos Award), projects dealing with establishing a regional network of artist groups (Autoplay), projects dealing with audience (Belgrade Revisited, Artist as Audience, Mobile Studios), and mutual support of the founders in their artistis presentation and public visibility.
